The Education ministry of Desert Hills Lutheran sponsors a variety of opportunities throughout the year under the structure of grace, discipleship and making a difference.
"What's So Amazing About Grace?" Our fall ten-week study began Tuesday, September 30 at 1:00 p.m. It is led by DHLC member Emilie Odde. At DHLC we "celebrate grace" as part of our mission. Grace contains the essence of the Gospel. It is a gift given to us in our baptism. It is the foundation of our faith, out of which all else flows in our Christian life. Therefore it is appropriate that our Education Committee begin our 2008-09 program in the fall with this study on grace. What is grace? We will explore together the deeper meaning of this "beautiful word, powerful concept" in a ten week study based on Phillip Yancey's award-winning book of the same title as this study. Topics covered include: God's love for the undeserving; Extending grace when you've been wronged; Responding with grace when it seems impossible; The power of grace to penetrate racism; Grace in the face of disagreement; Cheapening grace and robbing its power; The Church backslides: how legalism corrupts grace; Dispensing grace: how can we do it?; and, Counterforce; grace set loose in the world. Each week we will view a 15-minute DVD live session with Phillip Yancey and others, which will serve at the basis for discussion, and a short Bible study in small groups. All are welcome.
