This full-time position will be responsible for assimilating new and current members into the spiritual and social life of our church, helping members discover their spiritual gifts and matching them to areas of ministry that they have the greatest passion for, and developing small and large groups to nurture close relationships and spiritual growth.  Desert Hills Lutheran Church is an active, growing congregation with an average weekly worshipping attendance of 800 people.  DHLC is situated in a retirement community 20 miles south of Tucson, AZ.  Send your resume to David Thatcher at Administrator@dhlc.org.

 

Director of Connections Job Description

Responsible to:  Senior Pastor

 

Qualifications:

Someone with a proven track record for dynamic team leadership and with a passionate conviction to see people within a congregation connect to God and each other.  They must adhere to the Apostle’s Creed, be self-motivated, responsible, and enjoy building and working with teams of people.  They must be both organized and work well with people, not caring who gets the credit.  They will be asked to take the Disc Analysis for work performance and a spiritual gifts analysis to better assess their spiritual gifts and fit for the congregation.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

They will help people connect to each other, the congregation, and to God.  They will build a team of people to lead and encourage and equip small group ministry, large group fellowship gatherings, assimilation ministry, education for spiritual gifts, work with the senior pastor with new members, as well as participating in the overall ministry of the congregation.

 

1)  Oversee and develop the Small Group Ministry.

·        Recruit and raise up new leaders

·        Communicate the value of small groups to the congregation to promote a small group culture.

·        Provide training for leaders of small groups

·        Assimilate new members into small groups.

·        Administer the small group ministry by tracking group membership.

 

2)  Develop and implement the Guest Services for worship to help guests feel welcomed.  This can become an entry point for connecting people with friendship and healing.

·        Ushers, greeters, and hosts

·        Follow-up with Evangelism Committee on new guests

 

3)  Develop and implement an assimilation strategy and leadership team.  This strategy and team will help people grow in all phases of spiritual maturity.

·        Teachers for membership classes

·        Follow-up of new members to make sure they are connected.

·        Develop within the new member classes a process for new people to discover and use their spiritual gifts.

·        Develop a plan for placement for people to match spiritual gifts with their serving.

·        Develop a plan for placement follow-up when people sign up to serve.  Work with the staff and committees to make sure people are contacted.

·        Develop a strategy and team to recognize and show appreciation to people who are serving the Lord.

·        Work with the staff and Evangelism Committee on the Ministry Fair.

·        Work with the staff to develop ministry job descriptions for each position of service in the congregation.

 

4)  Develop and promote large group Bible fellowships within the congregation.

·        Recruit and raise up new leaders

·        Communicate the value of large fellowship groups to the congregation to promote them.

·        Provide training for leaders of large groups

·        Assimilate new members into large groups.

·        Administer the large fellowship group ministry by tracking group membership.

 

5)      Develop and implement a process to track membership connectedness.
