Finding My Place

August 06, 2025

At my loneliest, God is my hope.

At my darkest, God is my light.

At my weakest, God is my strength.

At my saddest, God is my comforter.

“My parents would bring me to church on Christmas and Easter, dressed in my very best,” Ann shares, “but I felt this was more of a routine and not so much of a deep connection to God. The 23rd Psalm was inscribed on this church’s beautiful stone walls, and it became a favorite.”

“After my husband’s passing, I found I was splitting my time between DHLC and a church in Tucson. I had a heart for service my entire life, seeing needs and filling them, naturally drawing me to DHLC, as I saw a church with a focus on community, caring for others, and showing the love and grace of Jesus.”

Ann did not really know anyone when she first started attending DHLC. “I was attending more regularly and trying to find my place,” Ann continued, “when I encountered members of the Worship Arts Team. They were excited to hear about my background in liturgical arts and enthusiastically invited me to begin volunteering in this ministry, helping refresh church banners. I also joined the Altar Guild to help with changing altar paraments and preparing communion. Serving in these ways brings me joy and purpose.”

With her heart for service, when the A Friendly Visit program began, Ann knew she wanted to get involved. “I joined A Friendly Visit because I saw loneliness everywhere and all around us. I know what a quiet house feels like, and it’s not always the best feeling. A Friendly Visit has become a blessing to me and to the host I visit. This person has become someone I have developed a ‘sister’ relationship with. The experience has been enriching to both of us.”

Ann continues finding ways to make connections through volunteering with the Food, Fun, and Fellowship Team for their trivia nights and with the Social Concerns Ministry, as well as helping with Saturday Suppers. She states, “I am delighted to have found DHLC. The pastors speak TO you and not AT you. I have made many friends and connections here, and DHLC feels like home. There are always opportunities to serve and do God’s work, and this church has so much to offer.”

DHLC has many opportunities for getting involved. Please reach out to the church, and we will help you connect to the right group.
