There’s nothing like a life-threatening diagnosis to bring life into sharper focus. That’s what Steve discovered when it happened to him.
“My life was good with many blessings,” Steve related. “I had a successful career, raised my family, and now have time and resources to enjoy retirement. Education was always important to Mary and me, for our sons, for our community back home. Church was important, too.”
“Mary and I started spending a few months each winter in Green Valley. We sought out church and choir singing. Friends said, ‘Come and see Desert Hills.’ We did. We found a fellowship of believers united in Christ with a heart to share God’s love out in the community,” Steve said. “We’ve kept coming back and are deeply involved now.” Steve continued, “I like making a difference by serving on the DHLC Foundation board. The endowment of the Foundation helps educate pastors who will lead us in the future. I like that emphasis on education. It’s key.”
“When I got my diagnosis, it was like a death sentence,” Steve recalled. “Now newer medicines and healthier habits allow me to live, but my horizon is reset with an endpoint more real. I want to make sure what I value outlasts me, like education of future church leaders. That’s why my planning for legacy gifts is so important now. I want to make a lasting difference beyond this life.”
Making a difference is a widely shared goal at Desert Hills Lutheran Church. With everyone doing their part, we are God’s hands reaching out to others. We can extend that reach far into the future through legacy gifts to DHLC Foundation.
