Making a difference in the lives of people who live in places challenging to reach is what Rev. Mike Busbey and Hellen Rios-Carrillo do. The weekend of May 11-12 they visited Desert Hills and shared the work they do on our behalf, and thanked us for partnering in their mission to serve our global neighbors who are as close as right next door. Their three-day visit also included a supper on Saturday, May 11 and the women’s luncheon on Monday, May 13.
Mike and Hellen live in Costa Rica and are missionaries and ELCA representatives to the companion Lutheran churches and schools in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Their presence there is witness that the church is a family in Christ that extends beyond language, custom, four walls, and country boundaries. Their commitment to this work has previously included studies at Luther Seminary, serving churches in South Dakota and Nicaragua, and assignments with Lutheran World Federation and the ELCA’s Chicago headquarters.
