Praying Humanity’s Heart-Cries
Two of the four Gospels remember Jesus’ response to his first disciples when they asked him, “Lord, teach us to pray.” The prayer that Jesus taught them (and us!) is but a few words in length. Yet, even after two thousand years, those few words, on the lips of Christ-followers, continue to put before God the heart-cries of humanity.
On the five Wednesdays between Ash Wednesday and Holy Week, Pastor Dennis Nelson will lead our mid-week Lenten worship services in the engaging words and music of Holden Evening Prayer. The weekly messages will focus on the Lord’s Prayer and how it can engage us, as Jesus’ followers in 2026, to grow in our faith that our prayers are heard and that God is at work to bring into being the fulfillment of the Creator’s intention, even in the presence of the fractures and fragmentation of our times.
Lenten Wednesday worship begins at 7 PM. If you’d enjoy a night off kitchen duties, a soup supper is served at 6 PM, affording an occasion to enjoy a simple Lenten meal with friends or to get to know friends you have not yet met. At 6:45 PM, join in a hearty hymn sing before the service.
