One God, Many Paths: Three Faiths, Shared Questions, Different Journeys
What do different faith traditions teach about God, sacred texts, religious practice, and how we are called to live?
This fall, we invite you to join us for a special three-part educational discussion series, “One God, Many Paths: Three Faiths, Shared Questions, Different Journeys.” Across three Thursday afternoons, starting at 2 pm, Jewish, Muslim, and Christian perspectives will be explored through presentations by religious leaders, followed by opportunities for questions and conversation.
The series encourages learning, understanding, and thoughtful dialogue as we explore both the differences among these traditions and the questions they share.
Thursday, October 22 — Judaism
Our first session will feature Rabbi Norman Roman, who has served as a Reform rabbi for more than 50 years. Rabbi Roman is Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Kol Ami in West Bloomfield, Michigan, and also serves Beth Shalom Temple Center in Green Valley, Arizona.
Rabbi Roman will speak about his role as a spiritual leader and teacher and introduce participants to Jewish law (Halakha) and the Torah, along with aspects of Jewish tradition and history. He will also discuss how a practicing Jew seeks to live a life consistent with his or her religious beliefs.
A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
Thursday, October 29 — Islam
Our second session will feature Imam Burhan Hamdan, Director of Islamic Affairs at the Islamic Center of Tucson. From 2018 to 2023, Imam Hamdan served as Principal and Dean of Students at Darrul Uloom Islamic School.
Imam Hamdan holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Wichita State University and has professional experience in engineering management, root cause analysis, statistical process control, and Six Sigma.
His presentation will introduce participants to Islam, the Quran, the Five Pillars of Islam, and the Six Articles of Faith, or core beliefs. He will also discuss the mosque's role in the Islamic community and his own role within it, as well as how a practicing Muslim strives to live consistently with Islamic beliefs.
A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
Thursday, November 5 — Christianity
The third and final session will explore the Christian faith. Pastor Mike Sager will explore Christian beliefs and how Christians strive to live in God’s image. He will also provide an opportunity to consider Christianity alongside the Jewish and Muslim perspectives presented during the first two sessions, continuing our exploration of shared questions and distinctive religious journeys.
A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
Join the Conversation
Each program is scheduled to begin at 2 pm, with approximately one hour and 15 minutes devoted to the presentation and discussion.
We hope you will join us for one session or all three as we learn from one another and deepen our understanding of three major faith traditions through the voices of those who practice and teach them.
