Summary
Have you ever been invited to a restaurant where you can’t read the menu or know what food is being ordered? You simply trust the invitation to come and eat. This weekend’s gospel is not an invitation to come to a lecture on the proper understanding of communion, nor does Jesus quiz the crowd for their understanding. Jesus simply invites them to come and eat, informing them of the promises that Jesus offers in the eating and drinking. It is Jesus’ promises that make communion life-giving, not our perception.
