At the Table - Saturday 3 PM

Series:

Summary

This weekend’s gospel takes place later in the day of Jesus’ resurrection. The disciples have heard the tales of Jesus being raised, but their grief prevents them from believing such wonderful news. Have you ever had grief keep you from hearing news that seems too wonderful to believe?

Two disciples are on their way home, returning to their lives. Their hopes have been dashed; nothing has changed, and it feels like the world has won yet again. It is into this pain that Jesus begins to walk with them, explaining what all that has transpired means for the world. But despite all the words Jesus speaks, it is only in the breaking of the bread that the two disciples realize who he is. The meal becomes a moment where Jesus is encountered. Things have changed; the world did not win. Their hopes and dreams are alive once more.
