Who among you wouldn’t begin Jesus’ conversation with the crowd this weekend by asking: Which of you wouldn’t leave behind 99 sheep on their own to search for one that is missing? Who wouldn’t search all night for a missing coin and then throw a party that probably costs more than the value of that coin when found? The rational answer is: No one. Yet, Jesus makes this outlandish claim that God would, because God is deeply concerned about even one of God’s children being lost.
