Summary
We are now in the Pentecost season of the church year. It is the longest season that continues through just before Thanksgiving. It is a time when Jesus is teaching his disciples and us what it means to be one of his followers. The lesson today is about Jesus preparing us to embark on a journey of rediscovery and challenging practices and beliefs that the disciples had grown up with. Jesus begins by breaking the “big one”. You are to do no work on the Sabbath. Why would Jesus break a law that he grew up with? Welcome to the beginning of the Pentecost journey.
