Elizabeth - Sunday 8 AM
Series: Stories of Courage
Summary
During the second week of Advent, we focus on Elizabeth, who married Zechariah. They were childless and beyond the age of having children. Elizabeth’s barrenness was a source of shame for both her and Zechariah, but especially for Elizabeth. In this period, it was expected that she would provide children for her husband, and her inability to do so was a source of shame for her.
It is important to note that shame is different than guilt. Guilt focuses on an act or behavior that one feels bad about doing, while shame causes one to feel bad about oneself. Elizabeth questioned her self-worth because she could not have children. However, God providing her with a child restored her sense of self-worth and took away her feelings of shame.
