This first weekend of Epiphany, we encounter Jesus at the beginning of his ministry during his baptism. A familiar figure is there, John the Baptist, who is Jesus’ cousin. Just as their mothers were connected in the miracle of their births, so too are these two connected in ministry and purpose. In these related stories, themes of pondering and expectations drive the story forward and allow us to connect to our own stories and questions. As we begin this journey of Epiphany, let us ponder our own questions and our own calling. What might God be calling you to do at this time of your life that might feel unexpected? What about us as a community?
