He is One of Us - Saturday 3 PM

Series:

Summary

Jesus has just finished his first sermon in his hometown, proclaiming the year of the Lord’s favor. At first, the hometown fans respond well, but they quickly begin to ask each other, “Isn’t Jesus just one of us? How can he make such claims?” To add fuel to the fire, Jesus asks them if they think they are so special because they are from the same hometown. This is not exactly a wonderful way to make friends. Jesus reminds them - and us - that God often works within those outside the inner circle. God’s desire to bring the good news of Jesus is not limited to a select group of people but so that the world might know and believe. Jesus came to release all those who are held in captivity so all might be free. Jesus’ hometown was held captive by their understanding of what God was doing in Jesus. We, too, confess that we are in bondage and cannot free ourselves. Think about what in your life is keeping you in captivity.
