Joseph - Sunday 8 AM

Series: Stories of Courage

Summary

This Advent season we have been looking at people of courage: Zechariah, Elizabeth, Mary, and now Joseph. It is fitting that we end with Joseph. While each had their challenges, Joseph’s story of courage is given just a few verses and then he is gone. The early Gospel writers did not want early Christians to be confused when Jesus was declared God’s Son, so Joseph faded into the background. Joseph’s courage came in knowing he would be raising a child not his own. Whenever anyone speaks of the boy, he and Mary would have to share a knowing glance. It was up to Joseph to ensure that even though he was not blood-related, the child would be cared for, loved, and brought up as his own. How do you deal with a change of life at a time when you think you have it all finally figured out? When something happens which forces you to rethink your plans? Are you stubborn and do what feels most comfortable and convenient, or do you find the courage to do what is right? Think about what Joseph did.
