Summary
In this week’s Gospel, we learned of a man with demons who is unable to help himself. His affliction led his community to chain and shackle him, but even these constraints could not control the raging evil within him. He remained helpless and an outcast until he was set free by the power of God through Christ. Although he was an outsider from the land of the Gerasenes, Jesus came to his aid. He cast out the legion of demons in the man and sent them into the nearby herd of pigs, who then flung themselves off the bank. While this dramatic event caused fear and confusion, the man was finally set free and called by Jesus as a witness to his stunning liberation.
