Summary
John 1:29-42
In the gospel of John Jesus’ first words were not a proclamation of the good news, nor words of healing, or even comfort, but a question. A question that two of John the Baptist’s disciples, who had come to Jesus because John had told them that Jesus was the lamb of God. Jesus asks them, “What are you seeking?” What do you want from me? That is an interesting question. Different groups in the gospels are looking for different things from Jesus. Some wanted Jesus to feed them, others to heal them, or to be able to witness a miracle of God, but for others they sought Jesus to kill him. So, Jesus wants to know what these two disciples wanted from him; why were they seeking him? Their response was to be where Jesus is. To be in his presences was their motivation to seek out Jesus. What about us? What about you? What are you seeking from Jesus? What is our family member, neighbor or this community seeking from Jesus? Jesus invites these two disciples to come and be in his presence. How do we invite others to come and see Jesus and there find what they might not even know they were seeking?
