"What Kind of King?" - Sat. November 25, 2023

Series:

Summary

It is our human tendency to ask, “What’s in it for me?” Today’s lesson is Jesus’ feeding of the 5,000. He performs the miracle; there are leftovers; people know he is a great prophet and want to make him King. Knowing this, Jesus “heads for the hills.” From the crowd’s perspective, this was the king to have. He could make food just appear so that all the empty stomachs could be filled and there would be no hunger. The people were amazed at the power of the prophet/king. But Jesus took off because his kingship was more than just taking care of the physical needs of the people. Hunger would come again, and Jesus wanted us to experience so much more. He wanted to address the Spiritual needs of the people. Reconnecting the broken and the alienated to a God who cares for them, even if it meant exchanging his throne for a cross and a crown of gold with a crown of thorns.
