Who Am I? - Sunday 8 AM
Series:
Summary
This past weekend, we heard Jesus pose two questions to his disciples. The first was, "Who do the crowds say the Son of Man is?" The second was, "Who do you say that I am?" Although these may seem straightforward questions with simple answers, I believe they are more complex. Our need for Jesus can vary throughout our lifetime experiences. Sometimes, I need Jesus to be the one hanging on the cross for me; other times I need to hear about the resurrection. There are moments when I seek a word of teaching and understanding. Then there are those overwhelming times when I simply need a shoulder to cry on. Peter's answer encompasses all these needs. He just says, "You are He. You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God." His declaration reflects a hope that the disciples felt but were hesitant to share. People had long awaited the arrival of this one who would come into the world. As people of God, we have witnessed and experienced the fulfillment of this hope.
